You know how you want to declutter, you want to get rid of the piles, you want to take charge of your home, put away the laundry, and you want to get organized, but you're just not doing it. Maybe it's because you feel too overwhelmed or because you're just not motivated. Well, in this episode, we're going to be talking about why that happens, what's really going on beneath the surface, and what the number one thing is that you can do to make a change so you can start taking charge of your home as soon as today.
Hey there, I'm Nicole from The Maximizing Momma, and I am obsessed with creating a home that gives me more peace of mind, more time to myself and more time with my kids. I teach you the tried and true secrets to clearing your clutter, getting organized, and managing your household in a realistic and sustainable way.
This show is where we talk about things like motherhood, decluttering, organizing, creating routines, mindset, energy, and everything in between. Our homes are the foundation for the rest of our lives, and it's so important to have a calm, relaxing household so you can have the time, the peace of mind, and the freedom to truly enjoy motherhood.
So sit back and get ready to take charge of your home.
Hello. Hello and welcome back to the Take Charge of Your Home Show. I am going to get right into it today because I wanted to have this episode released last week. But I totally forgot that it was spring break. I. There was no way that I was going to be able to record this episode when my kids were home from school and somebody was screaming in the background nonstop.
So my apologies on that, that was definitely a mistake. Me not paying attention and recognizing that spring break was coming up and I would not be able to record any new podcast episodes. So with that said, Tell me if you have ever felt like you need to clear the clutter from your space so you can be more organized.
Many people feel that way. I definitely did for a long time. But it's actually the opposite. You need to organize your mind first. The reason why your home is such a disaster is because your mind is overwhelmed with things to do. I mean, just think about all the things that we need to juggle on a daily basis from errands to projects, laundry, dishes, managing our home, on top of organizing and decluttering, raising responsible human beings, filling our own cups, getting enough, sleep, eating nutritiously, and more. It's a lot in and of itself.
And I have found that the overwhelm, this overwhelm that we feel from everything that we need to do in our lives. Is the result of thinking too much and not settling on a clear decision. It happens to people who tend to overthink.
Then when you consider the way that you're speaking to yourself, the way that you're thinking about your situation at home, it suddenly becomes very clear why taking charge of your home has felt so impossible before now. So today I want to open you up to the idea of improving your decluttering mindset.
Now, I know that mindset has become a, pretty trendy word, but that's only because it is so powerful and crucial to your success. Mindset would not be as popular as it is if it was, if it was just rubbish. So think of it like this. When you come home from a long day, you walk in your home, and the place is trashed.
You start thinking about how you don't have time to deal with the mess. You're too overwhelmed and you don't know where to start anyway. Well, then what happens? I'd say you definitely do anything possible to avoid dealing with the mess because you just confirmed to your brain that you're overwhelmed and you don't know where to start.
You see, our brains are like computers. What we put in is what we will get out. So if you're telling yourself that you are overwhelmed, you will feel overwhelmed. And your brain will look for ways to prove you, right. But if you tell yourself that you can absolutely spend 20 minutes taking charge of your home, then you will feel empowered and motivated and you'll start making it happen.
It's the exact same thing when we tell ourselves that we're beautiful or confident, we feel beautiful and confident.
So, if you are feeling way too overwhelmed by your home, the more you tell yourself that you are overwhelmed, the less likely you will be to do anything about it. If you're telling yourself that you don't have time to deal with your household, then you will never be able to find the time. If you tell yourself that you're a hoarder, your mind will look for ways to prove you, right. And that will result in you not taking charge of your home at all.
This concept has changed my life in more ways than one. At the end of 2017, that's when I was diagnosed with lymphedema and found out my legs would be swollen for the rest of my life. Over the next two years, I did a really great job at decluttering, but by the time the pandemic hit my mindset about my swollen legs had really caught up to me. And I had developed this belief that I needed to be off my feet at all times. So during the middle of the pandemic, I had gained a bunch of weight and I had been avoiding my home in a major way. I gained 60 pounds. I was getting no movement and I just wasn't being the present mom that I wanted to be. And I was extremely unhappy and irritated as a result. I desperately wanted to change, but I couldn't bring myself to actually do the things that I needed to do to make the change.
Then one day. I was scrolling on Instagram as one does when they're trying to avoid their problems. And I came across this woman's account. She was a mindset coach. And I knew within five minutes, that's what I needed to make the change that I so badly wanted to make. So I booked a call with her and about 30 minutes later, I sent her my payment information to book her as a coach.
And then over the next year, I went on a transformation as I changed my life from the inside out. And now almost two years later, my life is drastically different. I've stopped drinking eight cans of Mountain Dew a day. And I have started drinking water for the first time in my life. Now, and that's the only thing I drink.
I'm able to manage the messes and maintain my home easily and efficiently. I work out, and I'm getting in movement and I have lost 40 pounds. I've stopped yelling at my kids and I'm spending more time than ever being the present mom that I had always dreamed of being. And it's all because of my mindset.
Because I changed the way that I was thinking about my circumstances.
So once I implemented these changes, I realized that this was the missing link for why so many people had been unable to declutter and organize and take charge of their homes. Because of the way that they are thinking about their circumstances at home.
Because they've developed this mindset that they are overwhelmed, that they're disorganized, that they're a hoarder who will always be living that way. But here's the thing. We are the only ones listening to our thoughts.
No one else can hear our thoughts, but us. And unfortunately, the way that we're speaking to ourselves is pretty horrid. I mean, would you tell your best friend that she's a lazy hoarder? No, you wouldn't. But that's how we talk to ourselves. That's how we're speaking to ourselves. So, if you have been feeling like you can't get your house under control for one reason or another, you can bet that your mindset is the missing link.
Now. I wish that I could teach you everything possible about how to develop the right decluttering mindset. But there's a lot to cover. So today I'm going to share with you my favorite tip and then next week I'll give you another tip. And before we move on, I want to tell you why I am sharing so much about mindset right now.
Because when I improved my own mindset, like I said, it changed my life, in more ways than one. So I started teaching these concepts to my clients and it suddenly became easy for them to declutter and organize their homes. All because they were able to organize their mind and breathe a little more easily.
So then I put everything that I had learned into a course and decided to partner with other decluttering and organizing experts. Specifically, so I could get this information into the hands of as many people as possible. And now one of those bundles is available for a limited time. It's called the Get Organized Toolkit. And you can think of it like having a team of experts by your side, as you declutter and organize every area of your house.

Now let's chat about the number one thing that you can do to get into the mindset of someone who is winning over their clutter. And that is to remember the power of your identity. Your identity is a combination of your personal beliefs, values, abilities, and other identifiers that make you who you are. It's a collection of memories, experiences, and feelings that develops over time through your parents and your life experiences.
Anytime you consider your identity, it's about who you are or who you are being. In the world of business and entrepreneurship. I learned about identity as who I show up as every single day, while building a business and leading others to take charge of their homes. In my motherhood journey, my identity is more of a nurturing head of household. And when it comes to myself as a genuine human being, just trying to live my life on this earth, well, that comes down to who I want to be. Do I want to be creative and authentic or do I want to be always on the go and onto the next best thing?
Well, each of these identities can be summed up by the words that we use and how we literally identify ourselves. This is why I am statements are so powerful because we tend to identify with anything that comes after the statement. I am. In my business as a coach and a podcast host, I could tell myself that I am failing because I didn't get this episode out during spring break.
Or I could tell myself that I am doing the best I can considering all of my other responsibilities and that my listeners want to hear from me, even if I am a few days late. As a mother, I could identify as someone with swollen legs who is too sick to play with my kids, the way that they want me to. And that is how I identified a couple of years ago, which is why I grew so unhappy and gained so much weight. But now I identify as a mother who plays with my kids in the way that works for me, despite my swollen legs. And that usually means playing Mini Brands on the coffee table at the end of the night, but it's a hell of a lot better than not playing with them at all.
And when it comes to running my household. I could tell myself that I'm failing because my house is messy right now. Or I could tell myself that I'm doing the best I can since we got home late from soccer practice last night, and then our puppy got through the fence again.
So to put it simply who you identify as will have a huge impact on the decisions that you make from one day to the next.
So when it comes to decluttering and organizing, if you're identifying as someone who is lazy, who is overwhelmed, you will be stuck in definitely trying to take back control of your home. But if you identify as someone who is doing her best, even if that's just a little bit every day, then your confidence and motivation will soar.
And before you know it, your household will transform before your eyes.
So the next time you start to tell yourself that you're too overwhelmed to declutter or to deal with the mess. Remind yourself that you are not overwhelmed, you just feel overwhelmed. Keep in mind that any time you use the statement, I am, you are going to believe, your mind is going to believe what comes after it. So instead of telling yourself, I am overwhelmed, just remind yourself that you feel overwhelmed. And that you are in fact, the type of person who takes charge of her home one step at a time.
The next time you find yourself thinking that your family doesn't help any way so it doesn't really matter what you do around the house, remind yourself that you are the head of household, that your family will model your behaviors. And when you take charge of your home, your family will follow suit.
And if you are ready to take this all up a notch and change the game when it comes to your home. Then the Get Organized Toolkit and Mindful Decluttering is for you.
The sale is only available for nine more days. And then all of the bundle resources, all 62 resources will go back to their original price.
