[00:00:00]
In this episode, I'm going to be sharing with you the number one hack for you to always keep top of mind that will help you finally trade in your clutter and get a peaceful, organized home that helps you fully thrive as a busy mom.
Hey there, I'm Nicole from The Maximizing Momma and I am obsessed with creating a home that gives me more peace of mind, more time to myself, and more time with my kids. I teach you the tried and true secrets to clearing your clutter, getting organized, and managing your household in a realistic and sustainable way.
This show is where we talk about things like motherhood, decluttering, organizing, creating routines, mindset, energy, and everything in between. Our homes are the foundation for the rest of our lives, and it's so important to have a calm, relaxing household so you can have the time, the peace of mind, and the freedom to truly enjoy [00:01:00] motherhood.
So sit back and get ready to take charge of your home.
Hello. Hello and welcome back to the take charge of your home show.
I am so happy to be back here in the office. My kids have been out of school for the last five days because of Martin Luther king, Jr day and winter weather and below zero temps, which is completely abnormal here for us in Oklahoma.
So I'm very happy to be back and recording this episode. At the first of this month, we had the new year new space, de cluttering challenge, and all seven days of the decluttering tasks are up here on the podcast. So if you missed any of those, you can go have a listen.
And speaking of the new year, the reason I wanted to run that challenge is because it is very common for you to set a goal to clear the clutter and get organized in the coming year, over the coming 12 months, something that I did for many years, something that many of my clients and students have done.
[00:02:00] And so that's what I want to talk with you about today is the number one hack that will help you do that, that will help you trade in your clutter for peace of mind and sanity. So let's get right into it.
Now I'm getting go out on a limb and say that your pretty fed up with the mess in your house.
You can't ever just sit down for a nice meal with your family without first having to clean off a table, you can never use your kitchen without first having to clean the counters or put the dishes away. And you feel like you're just drowning in stuff and you're sick of it.
And so you spend months searching on Pinterest, scrolling through Tik Tok, looking on Instagram, reading blog posts, or even watching clean with me YouTube videos, looking for the number one hack or the best [00:03:00] tip or strategy that will help you finally get organized once and for all. And when you find the hack or the tip, you put it in place in your home, and you see results.
You notice a difference. Your house is neat and tidy. And you're feeling pretty accomplished. Until it's a mess again. This is what I call the clutter cycle. It's a never ending cycle that leaves you spinning in circles, trying to bunch of quick fixes, randomly rage cleaning, feeling overwhelmed, and almost giving up again and again, and again. And trust me when I say that you are not the only one who experiences this, I was there for years and so were my clients.
And this is why millions of people are struggling with clutter. Because it's a cycle. Because all of the hacks and the tips out there will [00:04:00] not help you start fresh and create an orderly home. You see, when you're trying to implement these random tips and strategies and these cookie cutter solutions, you're essentially putting one piece of the puzzle in place. And then leaving the unfinished puzzle on the table for weeks or, or even months on end. And then what happens? The puzzle always gets messed up or knocked off the table because of life in general. So when you think of this in terms of your entire household, If you're implementing one random tip or method for one area of your house here and there. You might get that space in order for a short period of time. But then when life comes up, as it always does. That space will get cluttered and messy again and again, and again.
So if these random tips and hacks that you find online are not the [00:05:00] solution to help you break the clutter cycle, let's talk about what is the solution. This is the number one hack that I could teach you. If you listen to this episode and you never come back to the take charge of your home show ever again, this is the number one takeaway that I want you to always remember.
You need to have a step-by-step roadmap to clear the clutter from your entire house. This is key. Having a plan to declutter your entire house. But unfortunately, so many people think that the key is to implement other people's organizing ideas because those ideas do work, once your house is already free of clutter.
To give you an example.
I can find an organizing idea on Pinterest right now for our linen closet, which we have never organized since we first moved to this current rental house after our house fire. [00:06:00] So our linen closet is a fucking joke right now. Just the other night, I had to get on a step stool and look underneath old curtains that were here in this rental before we even moved here just to find a bag of Advil. And of course, My circumstances are very unique.
So my father-in-law had gave me some Advil in a Ziploc baggie right after our fire. And I haven't needed to buy my own bottle ever since, because well I, I don't really use pain relievers very often. So a few months ago I'd found that bag and I put it into my linen closet with our band-aids and, and other medical types of things that we had been acquiring.
And so, anyway, The other night I needed that Advil so bad because I have an ulcer on my foot that is truly, truly one of the worst pains I have ever experienced in my entire life. And I woke up in the middle of the night and I was in extreme pain and I couldn't fall [00:07:00] back asleep. And so I climbed up on a step stool at 2:00 AM looking for that bag of Advil.
And while I was looking for it, I was thinking I really need to get this linen closet organized. But anyways, when I was saying is that I can find an organizing idea for that linen closet and it will work. And it will stay organized and clutter-free because the rest of my house is free of clutter. But if I was trying to organize my linen closet that was truly bursting at the seams with medicine, toilet ries and linens, it wouldn't matter how organized I made it. It wouldn't matter which idea I found off the internet or how perfect the system that I implemented. Because it would just be a mess again in a couple of weeks. And when you think about this on a larger scale for your entire household. Think about your kitchen counters and your living [00:08:00] room and your bedroom and your dining room.
Think about all the clutter that's in all of those spaces combined. So, if you were to organize your kitchen counters, when the rest of your kitchen cabinets and drawers are still cluttered and still full of excess stuff. Well, your counters are just going to end up a wreck again in a couple of weeks, because you don't have room for the things that you use on a day to day basis, because there is still clutter taking up all of your storage spaces, which means those items that you're using on a day-to-day basis are getting left all over your counters.
Does that make sense? So all of this to say, The solution to trade in your clutter for an orderly, organized home that gives you peace of mind and sanity is to have a plan to clear the clutter from all of those spaces. Not just one. Not just your counters or your linen closet. But from [00:09:00] all of your main living areas, from every nook and cranny of your main living spaces.
And this is why that is the number one hack that I can teach you.
