Hello, hello, and welcome to the Tape Sarge of Your Home Show, the podcast helping you trade in clutter and the messes for peace of mind and sanity, so you can have more time to make memories with your kids and the freedom to enjoy a nice evening to yourself every now and then amidst the chaos of never-ending to-dos, dinners, and diapers. We're saying goodbye to the hot mess mom life and instead creating households that are both sustainable and supportive of the lives that we want to live and the things that we want to do. And I am so excited to share that we have a free decluttering challenge coming up to help you break the clutter cycle and create more breathing room in your home and your life.
It's all taking place the first week of June inside of a private Facebook group and we're going to go big. There will be hundreds of people coming together to make a massive change in their homes and you're going to walk away knowing exactly what to do to get a neat and tiny home that gives you more breathing room once and for all. So you're definitely going to want to click on the link in the show notes to save your seat.
Now let's get back to our show. Hello. Hello.
And welcome back to the take charge of your home show. Last week here on the podcast, we talked about what to do when your house is both messy and cluttered and what that essentially means is that you have things left out that you want to keep that you don't really know where to put in your home, as well as piles of clutter accumulating around your house that you need to sort through and purge and decide what to let go of. And the problem is that this stuff is everywhere.
Both the clutter and the messes are everywhere in every room of your house. So up until now, you have been doing the best that you could by randomly tidying, sporadically organizing and decluttering a few things here and there, and really just trying your best to keep your house presentable to the best of your ability. So I want to acknowledge you for just a moment because I know how hard and exhausting that can feel.
I have been there. I spent many, many years doing those exact same things. But the reason why you've been trying all of this, the reason why you're doing the best that you can is because you're committed and you're ambitious and you want to make a change in your home.
So let me just say that it is not your fault that nothing has been working before now. It is not your fault that the home life industry has not given you a plan for how to organize your messy home. What I mean is this basic cookie cutter advice that you hear from other experts and professional organizers.
That basic advice was all meant for people who want to prevent their homes from getting out of control. It was never created for someone who wants to organize a messy home. It was never created for the people who are at the beginning of their journey, for the people who are at ground zero.
So all that advice that you've been trying before now from these home experts and professional organizers, all that advice has you taking two steps forward and one step back, or really kind of walking in circles, just leading you right back to where you started feeling more lost and confused than ever. Because what it comes down to, like I said, is there has never been a plan for how you can transform your entire home from messy to organized. But there's a silver lining in all of this because I have the plan.
I have the solution to get you out of this clutter cycle. And I'm going to share a small part of it with you today. But first let's talk very quickly about what happens when you're trying to sporadically declutter, organize and tidy a cluttered, messy home.
So you're picking things up and you're putting them back where they belong. You're rearranging and relocating certain items to move them out of the way. You're organizing piles on your flat surfaces to make them look more neat and tidy.
You're purging and decluttering a few things here and there, but that leaves you still left with all this stuff that you don't know what to do with, like the stack of papers on your counters or a small little basket full of random shit that you can't even figure out what to do with, or the random hairbrush and the toys on your desk. It's all that stuff. It's all those messes.
Those things are everywhere. So even if you're organizing your flat surfaces and trying to straighten them up, even if you're decluttering a few things or throwing away broken toys or sorting through paper, you're still left with these messes. And the reason why none of this has worked for you, besides the fact that you haven't been given the plan to deal with it, the reason why the random tidying and decluttering and organizing hasn't worked is because tidying up means to put things back where they belong.
So if you have a bracelet sitting on your desk, you know where it goes. You know that it belongs in your jewelry box, so you need to pick it up and put it back where it belongs. And then when it comes to decluttering, well that means to let go and clear away and purge the things that you no longer need, use or want.
So if there's a broken toy and you know that you're never going to fix it and your kids could really care less about it, then you could declutter that toy by throwing it in the trash. And then organizing, well that means to arrange your things in a beautiful orderly way so you could organize your desk, but it's not going to make any difference if there's still a bunch of other stuff, a bunch of messes left out on your desk because they can't be tidied since you don't know where to put them and you don't want to declutter them and let them go. Does that make sense? So all of this to say that means that you need to tackle these messes before you can declutter and organize your home.
And this is what I call the step zero because it needs to be done at the very start of your journey. It needs to be done before you ever try to declutter or get organized. And because of the fact that there is no home life concept out there at all that helps you deal with these messes, I came up with one.
It's called overhauling and it will massively improve your household because when you get these messes under control once and for all, when you overhaul them, it will make decluttering a heck of a lot easier because you won't have a bunch of random stuff left all over your flat surfaces and all over the surface layer of your home. You won't have a bunch of things to look at and stress you out and make you feel overwhelmed. Instead, your house and the surface layer, the surface level of your home, the areas that you can see with your naked eye, when you're able to overhaul that surface level, it will be much more tidy and orderly and peaceful.
And that's what we all want, right? I mean, that's why you're here listening to this episode because you want to have a neat and tidy home before you can have the mental bandwidth to start the cluttering and purging the true clutter and purging all those things that you've been holding onto for decades. In order for you to do that, in order for you to clear away and make effective decisions on what to let go of, you first want to be able to keep a tidy, clean house consistently. So that is the reason why there's a step zero that comes before the cluttering.
That is why you need to overhaul the mess before you clear the clutter. As long as your house is messy and cluttered, then you need to be prioritizing this step zero before you ever focus on the clutter. Now I have a four-step process that will help you do this, that will help you overhaul the mess.
It's called the Home Overhaul Blueprint. And it's all about really helping you do this strategically so you're not just inadvertently shuffling things around like you've been doing before now. If you remember the big three messes that we covered in a previous episode, well, the Home Overhaul Blueprint helps you tackle each of the big three messes one at a time.
As I said, it's very strategic. So to give you a rundown as a reminder of the big three messes, first you have the everyday messes, which all need to be put back where they belong, like the bracelet on your desk that needs to go in your jewelry box, or it could even be laundry dishes or trash, because those are all things that you know exactly where they go. It's anything that you know where it belongs.
It's an everyday mess. It's just not getting put back where it goes. Next of the big three messes is the homeless clutter.
The homeless clutter is really what I've been talking about throughout this episode, because it's all that stuff that you don't know what to do with. It's homeless. It doesn't have a permanent dedicated home.
You aren't sure where to put it, and that's why it's left out. And then finally, the last of the big three messes is accumulated clutter. And these are the things that are piling up and accumulating in places like the back of your closet or large piles of things, or the doom boxes that you have shoved in the corner of your garage, or the decades worth of stuff that you're not even really sure what it all consists of.
Now, one thing I want to mention is that homeless clutter can start accumulating just like the accumulated clutter does. But the key differentiator is if something is homeless, you don't know where to put it. It's almost always going to be items that you want to keep.
You can spot a small little pile of homeless clutter and immediately know that it's not something you want to let go of. So therefore that would fall under homeless clutter, even if it is a pile of things on your coffee table, for example, whereas you could have a pile of things on your dining room table or a pile of things in the corner of your living room. And you could spot that and really say to yourself, I don't, I don't really know what's all in there.
I need to sort through it and figure it out. If it's something that you're not really sure what it all is, that would then fall under accumulated clutter. So when you're ready to get started, when you're ready to start on this step zero and overhaul your home, the home overhaul blueprint encompasses everything that you need to do to tackle each of the big three messes.
So that way you can be sure that you're fully cleaning up the mess. You're fully overhauling every room in your house and you're tackling the chaos for good. Now, when I say chaos, I want to be clear that what I mean is this stuff that you can see with the naked eye overhauling and the home overhaul blueprint is about getting those messes and the chaos that you can see with your naked eye.
It's about getting those items under control. And then you will have the peace of mind, the sanity and the mental clarity to go all in on clearing away the accumulated clutter like a boss. So this is exactly what we're going to be doing during our third and final virtual event of this summer.
We have a free week long decluttering challenge where hundreds and hundreds of people will come together inside of a private Facebook group to overhaul the mess and start clearing away the clutter in their homes. I'm so very excited for this because we're going huge with this one. We've already had over 125 people sign up and we still have a week and a half left until we kick off.
So if you feel like, if you feel frustrated and stressed and overwhelmed by the shape of your household because the cluttering and tidying and organizing hasn't worked for you, or if you're fed up with your house getting messy and cluttered again and again, then you need to be at this challenge where I will show you how to trade in the piles for peace of mind and breathing room. And as I said in a previous episode, this is our last event of the summer. It's the one of the last times I'm really going to be showing up here on the podcast through the rest of the summer as I take some time off to focus on my personal life.
So come join us during this challenge, show up, get inside of the private Facebook group, join us for the live sessions, get your questions answered and get motivated and encouraged and be held accountable to really take charge of your home once and for all to sign up. All you need to do is click on the link in the show notes and your name and your email. So you're all signed up for the free decluttering challenge and get ready to make a massive change in your home.
I can't wait to see you there. I'll talk to you soon. Bye.
